The Vortex Has Caught Me
Day: 50
Location: Woods Hole Hostel
AT Mile: 625.8
Thru hikers use the term vortex to refer to getting stuck in town longer than planned. I’ve avoided it so far, but Woods Hole Hostel has caught me.
I came in yesterday to buying a loaf of homemade bread for lunch, but I’m still here today taking a zero. I’m doing a work for stay, so I’ll work 4 hours in exchange for home cooked breakfast, dinner, and a bed.
The hostel is part of a homestead with a great view and the women who runs it, Neville, has cultivated a welcome and comfortable environment. It’s definitely my favorite place I’ve stayed so far.
The food is also incredible. It’s all organic and most of it comes from the homestead. Last night we had japche, salad fresh from the garden with homemade dressing and bread. The Wi-Fi isn’t quite strong enough to attach pictures but trust me the view and the food are both incredible.
